CONTROVERSIES :

Controversies are the part and parcel of any celebrity's career . It is not like that a big sportsmen or any other big celebrity can't make mistake , after all they are all humans . Brian Lara is also involved in some of the controversies in his Cricketing Career . Even a simple and straight forward action can be turned into controversial action , because of advancement of media these controversies are in front of everyone .

Some of the main controversies of the Brian Lara's Cricketing career are mentioned below :

Test Match Against India at Antigua :

There was a controversy in the Test Match between West Indies and India . It was on the fourth day of the first Test of India's Tour of West Indies . Both the team were playing the match under good spirit and circumstances . Mahender Singh Dhoni , the Indian Wicket Keeper Batsmen was batting at that time and the bowler was Dave Mohammed , Dhoni smashed one flighted delivery towards Mid Wicket and was caught on the boundary by the fielder . Dhoni felt that the foot of the fielder touched the rope so that's why he decided to stay at the pitch . So at that time Lara got angry with Umpires and taken the ball from the Umpires in an angry manner and there were some heated words exchange with Mahender Singh Dhoni and Brian Lara said to Dhoni that you should have walked off . So that created a big controversy , but Rahul Dravid Skipper of Indian Team Declared the innings and after that all settled down , Brian Lara just got away from any penalties and got a warning from the match refree . Normally he is a very calm and collective individual , but it was the heat of the moment .After that apologies were exchanged , but the media created that event as a controversy .

Sponsorship Controversy :

During the tenure of Brian Lara as a captain the West Indian side was playing at their best , all the players were giving their 100% and giving full support to their captain . It was a wonderful side full of unity and determination under a very courageous captain . In 2004 West Indies won the ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY , so the things started to go in the right direction , but suddenly the controversy of sponsorship took place . There was a clash between the Board's Sponsorship and Brian Lara's personal sponsorship which is Cable and Wireless .Brian Lara decline the more participation in Cricket as a West Indian Player , It was a tricky situation for both Lara and the West Indian Board because some other star players were also involved in the controversy , Board selected Brian Lara and dropped the other players who were involved in this controversy and at that time Brian Lara took a stand for the solidarity , but the West Indian Board took the right action and resolved the issue before the Test Series Against South Africa .

Criticism on Batting Order :

In the later half of Brian Lara's career he started batting at number 5 and 6 . Many experts from all over the world wanted Brian Lara to bat up the order and take more responsibility . They thought that Brian Lara is the best Batsmen in the line up and he should take more responsibility being a senior batsmen .

It is very obvious that the best batsmen of any team always come upfront . Brian Lara started feeling comfortable batting at No.6 because he want younger player to start taking the responsibility . Nobody can doubt his abilities with the bat , but when he started batting at No.6 , some of the Cricketing experts started pointing fingers at him and said that he is not playing for the team and he is just playing for himself . This was exactly the case in the recent performances of West Indies when Brian Lara used to bat down the order , usually there was a collapse and all the pressure again mounted on Brian Lara to stabilize the condition of the team . No Consultation With The Selection Committee :

After the exit of West Indies from the World Cup many controversies started taking place . The selector of the West Indian Team recorded his statement that Brian Lara never consulted him for selection of the team in any match of the World Cup and that's why he is responsible for the humiliating defeat in the Mega Event .

The selector was very unhappy with the team's selection for the World Cup , he said if the team was selected with consultation and consensus the results would have been different . Lara said on the statement of Mr. Andy Roberts that the coach of the team used to select the side and he had very little to do with the selection . This statement of Andy Roberts caused some Hassle in the ranks of the Cricket Board .
